New York/IBNS: Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting ten commuters in an attack at New York's Brooklyn subway station, the New York Police Department said on Wednesday.

Frank James, 62, was first named by the police as a "person of interest" on Tuesday, following which they launched a massive search operation.

"Frank Robert James had nowhere else to run or hide — and is now in NYPD custody. The work of our detectives is second to none and the dedication of our patrol officers is never ending," a tweet by the NYPD said.

On Wednesday morning, officials declared that James was the sole suspect in the shooting, in which 23 people were wounded, 10 of them from gunfire.

The attack broke out around 8:30 a.m. on a Manhattan-bound N train at the 36th Street station in Sunset Park on Tuesday.

According to police, the suspect detonated two smoke grenades and opened fire with a handgun at the Brooklyn station during the rush hour.

People tweeted photos showing commuters with blood on their clothes after Tuesday's attack while many helped fellow commuters.
