New Delhi: Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson met India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss expanding bilateral trade and investment, with a focus on energy security and critical supply chains.

In a post on X, Goyal said they “exchanged views on energy security, critical minerals, and renewable energy” to strengthen India–Canada cooperation for “mutual growth and prosperity.”

He also said he showed Hodgson the new Parliament building, describing it as a blend of heritage and modernity.

According to an official readout, Hodgson highlighted Canada’s potential to be a reliable, long-term supplier of critical minerals and liquefied natural gas.

He also pointed to the strengths of Canada’s wood sector in supporting India’s growing construction and furniture industries with sustainable and high-quality products.

Hodgson reiterated Canada’s commitment to diversifying trade and building resilient, mutually beneficial supply chains with India.

The two ministers also discussed opportunities to foster innovation and stressed the importance of mobilising public and private capital to advance joint investments between the two countries.
