Panorama India to present Indian heritage at India’s I-Day celebrations in Toronto

Toronto, Aug 10 (IBNS): Over 70,000 people are expected to converge at Toronto’s Nathan Philips Square on Sunday, Aug 18, to celebrate the 20th Annual India's Independence Day Celebrations and Grand parade, media reports said.

Panorama India, with the support of Consulate General of India, will host the daylong event to celebrate India’s culture and heritage and present music and dance performances, a kid’s zone.

There will be an international bazaar with varied kiosks exhibiting fashion, jewellery, handicrafts and an array of food.

The all-day program includes a Live concert by renowned Punjabi superstar Garry Sandhu and performances by local dancers and Panorama Idol singers.

“This free community event will gather thousands of people to celebrate India’s 72nd Independence Day anniversary,” says Anu Srivastava, president of Panorama India. “Our mandate is to bring together the local Indian community through the celebration of Unity in Diversity. There will be 100 community organizations participating who will bring their unique colour, music, dance and culture to celebrate this momentous occasion.”

The event kicks off with the Opening Ceremony at 12:30 pm followed by the Grand Parade, marshalled by Lara Dutta, Bollywood actor and Miss Universe 2000.

According to organizers, the grand parade will have 20 floats representing the various States of India put together by the diverse number of cultural groups in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The parade will begin at University Avenue and Armoury Streets at Nathan Phillips Square, go North to Dundas, East to Yonge Street, South to Queen Street and conclude at Nathan Philips Square.

The Indian Consul General in Toronto and Premier Doug Ford will be on hand to celebrate the India Day event with participation from several political dignitaries from all levels of government.
