Pakistan minister says flood caused at least $10bn of damage to the country

Islamabad: Pakistan planning minister said early estimates showed the ongoing floods in the country have caused at least $10bn of damage.

Separately on Monday, Pakistan received a $1.1bn bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reports BBC.

That money is aimed to help the cash-strapped economy avoid defaulting on its debts, the British media reported.

The flash floods and heavy rainfall in the country has so far left over 1,000 people dead.

More than 33 million people have been hit due to rainfall.

In a message to President Arif Alvi, Queen Elizabeth said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the floods across Pakistan."

“My thoughts are with all those who have been affected, as well as those working in difficult circumstances to support the recovery efforts," she said in the message as quoted by Dawn News.
