New York: Abandoned car triggers panic, airport shut down

New York City, Sept 23 (IBNS): An abandoned car outside a terminal caused panic and distress for passengers at the LaGuardia Airport on Thursday night, reports said.

A law enforcement officer was quoted in the media as saying that an unidentified person drove the vehicle up to the terminal, jumped out of the car and ran away.

"LaGuardia Airport Terminal B is closed and passengers have been evacuated and vehicle traffic is being diverted away from the terminal," a port authority spokeswoman was quoted as saying by New York Daily News.

A similar incident took place in Los Angeles airport last month.

However, after cordoning off the area and investigating the scene, law enforcers declared it a hoax.

Later, a man in a Zorro costume and a sword was arrested by the airport police.
