Mass protests against police violence, racism erupt in France

| @indiablooms | Sep 25, 2023, at 04:39 am

More than 31,300 individuals took to the streets of France against police violence and racism on Saturday, as reported by Franceinfo radio.

While Paris witnessed around 9,000 demonstrators, trade unions contested the numbers, asserting that a staggering 15,000 people participated in the protests in the capital city.

The otherwise peaceful demonstrations were marred by the actions of radical protesters who, shortly after the event's commencement, began vandalizing store windows and ATMs, media reports said.

The situation escalated as they targeted a police car, hurling bottles and stones at it.

Paris police subsequently confirmed the detention of three individuals involved in these incidents.

With a total of 30,000 police officers deployed across the nation to maintain order during the protests, including 1,000 in Paris alone, tensions remain high as the nation grapples with the issue of police violence and racial injustice.
