Ottawa, Feb 11 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said his Liberal Party will win Burnaby South by-elections, in which New Democratic leader Jagmeet Singh is seeking a seat, media reports said.

Supporting his candidate Richard T. Lee, Trudeau said as quoted by CTV News, "We need strong local voices standing up for you, fighting for you in Ottawa, and that's exactly what Richard is going to be."

"Nobody make any mistake: The Liberal party is going to win this riding of Burnaby South."

Singh, who became the New Democratic leader in 2017, is eyeing on to win his first seat.

Lee, a former provincial legislator, replaced Karen Wang as the Liberal candidate after the latter resigned.

Wang resigned after contrasted herself as the "only" Chinese candidate with Singh in an online post.

Liberals' first candidate had reportedly called Singh as "of Indian descent".

The by-polls are scheduled to be held on Feb 25.
