The Laos government has expressed 'sadness' over the death of six tourists due to suspected methanol poisoning in the country.

“The Government of the Lao PDR is profoundly saddened over the loss of lives of foreign tourists in Vangvieng District, Vientiane Province, and expresses its sincere sympathy and deepest condolences to the families of the deceased," the government said in a statement as quoted by Vientiane Times.

The government said it is working to find the cause of the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Government of the Lao PDR reaffirms that it always attaches importance and pays attention to the safety of both domestic and foreign tourists," the statement said.
