Aceh, May 18 (IBNS): A Sharia court in Indonesia's Aceh province has sentenced two men to 85 lashes after finding them guilty of having gay sex, reports said.

In its ruling, the court said that the men violated Islamic laws and is liable to receiving 85 lashes each in public.

The unidentified pair were found in bed together by a vigilant group in March.

Though gay sex is not illegal in Indonesia, Aceh, where Sharia law still prevails, handed out the unprecedented judgement.

The couple, aged 20 and 23, will receive the punishment next week, a BBC report read.
