The helicopter, which was carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and senior officials in northwestern Iran, has suffered a crash, media reports said.

It is still not clear whether any injury was reported in the crash.

President Raisi was returning from a ceremony to open a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed upon landing in Varzaqan region on Sunday, reported IRNA news agency.

The president’s convoy included three helicopters. Two of the choppers carrying a number of ministers and officials have landed safely, reported Tasnim news agency.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the Friday prayers leader of Tabriz, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, were reportedly present in one of the helicopters.

According to reports, they were travelling in the helicopter where Raisi was present.

The rescue team has been rushed to the area.

More details are awaited.
