Sacramento, Mar 10 (IBNS): A gunman and the three women he took hostage at California's largest veteran's home, were found dead after hours long standoff, local reports said.

The incident took place on Friday.

Police said that they found four bodies at around 6:30 pm. Several shots were fired at the police who stood outside the facility.

An investigation has been initiated.

According to police, it has not yet been confirmed if the gunman choose the three women randomly or if they had any connection prior to the event.

Condoling the loss, California Highway Patrol Assistant Chief Chris Childs said, "This is a tragic piece of news - one we were really hoping we wouldn't have to come before the public to give."

The aforementioned facility is the largest veteran's home in the US and houses about 1000 war veterans.
