Baghdad/Xinhua: A German national was kidnapped on Monday by unidentified militants in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, German news agency DPA reported on Tuesday.

Hella Mewis, a German art manager, was kidnapped at Abu Nawas Street in Baghdad, DPA said, citing independent sources.

Mewis disappeared after leaving her house and the security forces are still searching for her, said the report.

Having lived in Baghdad for several years, Mewis is devoted to establishing the Bait Tarkib collective, an institute aimed at promoting the work of young Iraqi artists, according to DPA.
