New York, Apr 8 (IBNS): At least one person was killed as a fire broke out at Trump Tower in New York city on Saturday, officials said.

Police identified the man killed as Todd Brassner, 67, a resident of the building's 50th floor. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died, spokeswoman Angelica Conroy of the New York Fire Department was quoted as saying by CNN.

The Fire Department said the fire was contained to the 50th floor of the tower.

The department said 200 firefighters and EMS members were at the scene of the fire to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was later brought under control.

Four fire fighters were injured in the incident.

"We had many floors to search, and stairways, and right now the only civilian injury is to the occupant of that apartment. There are four Firefighters with non-life-threatening injuries -#FDNY Commissioner Nigro," tweeted the department.

No member of US President Donald Trump's family were present at the building when the fire broke out, media reports said.

US President Donald Trump congratulated fire fighters for their efforts in bringing the fire under control.

"Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!," he tweeted.
