Bryansk/Russia: A freight train was derailed on Monday following an explosion in a Russian region bordering Ukraine, according to a social media post by the local governor, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Russian Railways, the country's rail operator, said the incident occurred at 10:17 Moscow time (0717 GMT), reported Reuters.

The locomotive and seven freight wagons were derailed in the accident, and the locomotive caught fire.

"An unidentified explosive device went off at the 136-kilometre mark on the Bryansk-Unecha railway line, derailing a freight train," stated Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz in a post on his Telegram channel.

Social media images revealed the scene of tank carriages lying on their side and dark grey smoke rising from the site of a derailment in the Bryansk region

According to Russian authorities, the region that shares borders with both Ukraine and Belarus has experienced several assaults from pro-Ukrainian sabotage groups in the past 14 months since Russia's invasion.

In a separate incident on Saturday, the governor reported that a village just across the border was hit by shells from Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of four civilians.

Located approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) north of Russia's border with Ukraine, the governor identified the area of the incident. However, he did not disclose the party accountable for the attack.

The governor of Russia's Leningrad region adjacent to St. Petersburg reported that a power line had been detonated overnight and that an explosive device was discovered near a second line.

In images shared on his Telegram page on Monday, Governor Alexander Drozdenko displayed destroyed power lines and metal supports.

He stated that the federal security service of Russia, the FSB, was present at the location, but did not indicate whom he held accountable for the occurrence.
