Donald Trump blasts WHO for being 'China-centric'

He pointed out that despite being funded heavily by the US, WHO shielded China and had advised Trump to keep the country's borders open to the Asian country, from where the COVID-19 had its outbreak in December last year.

In a tweet, Trump wrote: "The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?"

As of now, 378,289 people in the US have been affected by the contagious virus including 11, 830 deaths.

New York has been the worst hit with maximum deaths to reach a tally of 5,489. On Monday, as many as 731 people died in New York, setting it as the highest single-day death record.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump during a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged New Delhi to export Hydroxychloroquine or a drug linked to the cure of COVID-19

After he had learnt about the news that India might not export the drug, Trump in his latest statement said, "I don't like that decision, I didn't hear that was his decision. I know that he stopped it for other countries. I spoke to him yesterday, we had a very good talk and we'll see whether or not that's his."

"I spoke to him Sunday morning, called him, and I said, we'd appreciate you allowing our supply to come out. If he doesn't allow it to come out. That would be OK. But of course, there may be retaliation. Why wouldn't there be?" he told a news briefing on Monday. 

After Trump issued the warning, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday said in a statement, "Given the enormity of the COVID19 pandemic, India has always maintained that the international community must display strong solidarity and cooperation."
