US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon to lead the Department of Education.

In a statement issued, he said: "Linda will use her decades of Leadership experience, and deep understanding of both Education and Business, to empower the next Generation of American Students and Workers, and make America Number One in Education in the World. We will send Education BACK TO THE STATES, and Linda will spearhead that effort."

As per US Small Business Administration website, Linda McMahon is the co-founder and former chief executive officer of WWE, based in Stamford, Connecticut.

During her tenure with the farm, she helped grow WWE from a 13-person regional operation to a publicly traded global enterprise with more than 800 employees in offices worldwide.

Linda quit as CEO of WWE in 2009 to run for the U.S. Senate.

She was the Republican nominee to represent the people of Connecticut in 2010 and 2012.
