Davos 2018: Canada PM Trudeau challenges businessmen to hire women employees
Davos, Jan 24 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has challenged all businessmen to hire women employees while he was addressing a gathering at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday.
Trudeau said the gap between rich and poor can be bridged by hiring, promoting and retaining women in workplaces.
He was quoted by The Guardian: "Too many corporations have single-mindedly put the pursuit of profit before the wellbeing of workers. All the while, companies avoid taxes and boast record profits with one hand while slashing benefits with the other.”
Trudeau spoke about gender equality and advancement of women in the workplaces.
He said recruitment of more women in workplaces will only lead to diversity of ideas and innovations.
Referring to sexual harassment in the workplaces as "unacceptable", Trudeau recognised it as a "systemic problem".
He also lend support to #metoo campaign, which flooded social media after cases of sexual harassment by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein came to light.
Taking a swipe at US President Donald Trump, Trudeau said ten other nations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership would go with the free trade agreement.
The US has pulled out itself of the partnership recently.
Trudeau's comment came at a time Canada and the US are poles apart regarding the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
The pull out of the US from the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is just a matter of time as Canada is preparing itself for a second plan, CTV News said.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said the country is ready for a plan B.
