"China to cut troops by 300,000"

Beijing, Sept 3 (IBNS): China on Thursday announced that the number of its troops will be cut by 300,000.

The announcement was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping .

"The People's Liberation Army of China is the people's army. All its officers, men and women must bear in mind their responsibility of serving the people whole-heartedly, faithfully fulfill the sacred duty of protecting the nation's security and people's well-being, and carry out the noble mission of upholding world peace," the President was quoted as saying by Xinhua at the victory parade being held to commemorate 70th anniversary of the victory against Japan in the World War II.

He said: "Here, I announce that China will cut the number of its troops by 300,000."
