Charges lay at unlicensed day support centre for disable people

Vaughan, Oct 18 (IBNS): Investigators with York Regional Police District Criminal Investigations Bureau have laid several charges against the owners and staff at an unlicensed day support centre for people with disabilities in the city of Vaughan.

In August 2017, York Regional Police began an investigation into the Hope Centre, located on Romina Drive, after a family member reported some concerns about possible abuse.

Additional victims were identified through the investigation.

On October 13, 2017, York Regional Police executed a search warrant at the Hope Centre and arrested the owner, her son and her husband, who all worked at the centre.

The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators want to ensure that there are no additional victims and are urging anyone with information to please come forward.

Rosalina Panetta, 47, of city of Vaughan, has been charged for failing to provide necessaries of life, assaulting and being fraud.

Onofiro Defina, 27, of city of Vaughan, has been charged for failing to provide necessaries of life, forcible confinement and assault.

Charges for assault has been laid on Giuseppe Morana, 41, of Kleinberg.
