Chaos in NYC's Times Square: Woman stabs 2 before fatal NYPD shootout

One of the victims, a 32-year-old woman, died at a hospital, police told ABC 7. The other victim, a 68-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since been listed in stable condition, officials told the news channel.

According to investigators, the woman was threatening people with two knives at West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue at around 4:26 p.m. before stabbing the two victims.

She then fled north towards an NYPD substation in Times Square, where officers confronted her, police said.

The woman refused to drop the knives despite repeated instructions from the officers. Police said officers opened fire at around 4:27 p.m., striking her.

The NYPD later released images of the two knives recovered from the scene.

At a press conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the woman had threatened the officers during the confrontation.

“During the encounter, she told the officers, ‘I'm not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you.’ She repeated, ‘I will kill you,’” Tisch was quoted as saying by ABC 7.

The suspect was later identified as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Tisch said Cisneros had a “documented mental health history.”
