Canadian kidnapped in Burkina Faso found dead
Ouagadougou, Jan 17 (IBNS): A Canadian, who was kidnapped in northern Burkina Faso, a country in west Africa, on Tuesday night, has been found dead, media reports said.
Burkina Faso's Security Ministry said a dozen people, who are believed to be terrorists, had abducted the man, who has been identified as Kirk Woodman, from a mining exploration site.
The abduction took place at an area in Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou, where the government had warned that there is a growing jihadist attack.
Condoling Woodman's death, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Twitter, "Canada condemns those responsible for this terrible crime. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Woodman’s family and loved ones.”
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, Chrystia Freeland, said in a statement, "Canada is appalled and deeply saddened that Kirk Woodman, who was abducted on January 15, 2019, has been killed in Burkina Faso.
“Canada condemns those responsible for this terrible crime. We are working with the government of Burkina Faso and other international partners to pursue those responsible and bring them to justice. The government’s priority is the safety and security of Canadians.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Woodman’s family and loved ones. This is a devastating and extremely painful time for them and they have Canada’s full support. As they mourn this tragedy, we ask that their privacy be respected.”
