Canada wants free trade agreement with Asian nations: PM Trudeau

Singapore, Nov 14 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said his country wants free trade deal with a bloc of 10 Asian nations, media reports said.

Trudeau made the comment in Signapore on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister wants an agreement as early as spring.

While giving his remarks, Trudeau said as he has been quoted by CTV News as saying, "Canada is resolutely pro-trade and Canada is very aware that the centre of economic gravity in the world is certainly shifting towards Asia and specifically towards southeast Asia."

"The ASEAN nations represent extremely exciting, growing economies, looking to take their place in the world and Canada is very excited about working with you on that."

Trudeau spent couple of days in Singapore to place Canada as the most favourable nation for South Asia to trade ahead of the United States.

He made an effort to place Canada as an economically and politically stable country for trade.
