Vancouver, Dec 24 (IBNS): Thousands of people are likely to be spending Christmas this year in darkness in southern British Columbia, media reports said.

BC Hydro crews have been working to restore power as a windstorm swept the region on Thursday.

The storm was one of the worst in last 20 years, BC Hydro said.

Till early Monday morning, 26,000 people remained in the dark.

BC public safety minister, Mike Farnworth, told CTV News that emergency operations centres have been activated.
