The Hamilton Police have started investigating the case.

The police described her as an ' innocent bystander'.

Police said in a statement: "Hamilton Police are investigating after an innocent bystander was tragically killed by a stray bullet while standing at a bus stop on Upper James in #HamOnt."

The victim was rushed to a hospital after she was hit by a bullet, where she died.

The police further wrote on X: "Hamilton Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this evening in the area of Upper James and Mohawk. An adult female was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. At this time, there is no suspect or vehicle description. The investigation is in its early stages—more details will be shared as they become available."

Police told CBC that investigators, after reviewing video, have determined that a passenger in a black Mercedes SUV fired at people in a white sedan.

Shortly after the shooting, the white sedan headed north on Upper James Street while the Mercedes went west on South Bend Road, police said.
