Brazil police arrest at least 108 in child-sex crackdown

| @indiablooms | Oct 21, 2017, at 05:03 pm
Brasilia, Oct 21 (IBNS): The Brazilian police have arrested at least 108 people involved in child sex offences in a major crackdown, reports said.

The operation is hailed as the biggest against child sex offenders in Latin America and ran across 24 states in the nation along with Brasilia, the capital.

The six-month long investigation engaged more than 1000 officers and yielded 150,000 files containing adult content.

Police said that most of these files were accessed through the dark web, which can only be reached by specific software.

Among the ones arrested were ex policemen, government workers and managers in youth soccer clubs.

"They store their illegal, criminal photos in a computer of someone in another part of the country or even abroad," said Justice Minister Torquato Jardim.

"And often the people storing the content are unaware," he added.

Earlier this week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the domestic intelligence and security service of the US, rescued at least 84 minors and nabbed at least 120 traffickers during the course of 'Operation Cross Country', an anti child-sex racket bust.
