Washington, Dec 1 (IBNS): Former US Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton mourned the death of ex-US President George Herber Walker Bush.

Bill Clinton tweeted: "Hillary and I mourn the passing of President George H. W. Bush, and give thanks for his great long life of service, love and friendship. I am grateful for every minute I spent with him and will always hold our friendship as one of my life’s greatest gifts."

Obama said: "America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight – and all who were inspired by George and Barbara’s example."

George Herber Walker Bush, the 41st US President, passed away on Friday evening at an age of 94.

Bush's son and former US President, George W Bush, informed about his father's death in a statement on Twitter.

The senior Bush is survived by five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two siblings.

Prior to assuming the topmost position, Bush was the US Vice President from 1981 to 1989.

He served as the President between 1989-1993.

In April this year, his wife Barbara Bush died at the age of 92. Following his wife's death, senior Bush was admitted to a hospital with an infection.

In his statement, junior Bush lauded his father, who is often referred to as '41' to distinguish from his son, saying, "George H. W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for.

"The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41's life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.

Senior Bush, who was a Republican politician, was a World War II naval aviator and Texas oil pioneer before politics.

Funeral arrangements of the former President are yet to be announced.
