Dhaka/UNI: A number of Bangladesh National Party (BNP) workers have been detained after a clash between the party activists and police personnel at Naya Paltan area ensued in the capital on Tuesday noon.

According to sources, BNP had organised a harmony procession protesting against the communal attacks in various parts of the country.

The procession began from the central party office at around 11am. However, a clash between the party workers and police began when the procession reached Kakrail intersection.

Abul Hasan, Assistant Commissioner (Motijheel zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said, "BNP party workers attacked on the police personnel after ending their procession. In reply, the police fired tear shells."

Some people were detained and taken them to Paltan Police Station, he added.
