Washington/IBNS: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that his forces eliminated the replacement of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

In a tweet, Trump said: "Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops. Most likely would have taken the top spot - Now he is also Dead!"

Earlier, the ISIS supremo was killed during a US operation.

"Last night the United States brought the world's number one terrorist leader to justice," Trump said in his address.

"US Special operations forces executed a dangerous and daring night time raid. In northwestern Syria and accomplished their mission in grand style, the US personnel were incredible," Trump had said.

He said no security personnel was killed during the operation.

Trump had said: "A large number of Baghdadi's fighters and companions were killed with him."

Giving details about the death of the ISIS leader, Trump said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi detonated his suicide vest during a raid by special forces late on Saturday.

He was killed during a military operation in northwest Syria.
