At least 50 feared dead after Congo mine caves in

Kinshasa/UNI: At least  50 people are feared dead after a gold mine collapsed in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local authorities said on Saturday.

 

 

The accident at the makeshift mine occurred on Friday due to torrential rain in Kamituga city in South Kivu province, Xinhua reported.

Provincial Governor Theo Nagwabidje Kasi said "the tragic deaths of 50 people, most of whom were young" has occurred in the accident, while Kamituga Mayor Alexandre Bundy said "we are not sure of the exact number of victims right now".
