A French journalist was killed while reporting for the war in conflict-hit Ukraine, media reports said on Wednesday.

Arman Soldin, who worked for AFP news agency, died on Tuesday after being hit by rocket fire near Chasiv Yar, just west of Bakhmut, reports BBC.

A team of journalists came under attack at about 16:30 (13:30 GMT) while with a group of Ukrainian soldiers, the British media reported.

Meanwhile,  French President Emmanuel Macron paid tributes to the journalist.

"An Agence France-Presse journalist, one of our compatriots, Arman Soldin, was killed in Ukraine. With courage, from the first hours of the conflict he was at the front to establish the facts. To inform us. We share the pain of his loved ones and all his colleagues," the President tweeted.

AFP News Agency also condoled the death of the journalist and wrote: " We are devastated to learn of the death of AFP video journalist Arman Soldin in eastern Ukraine today. "

"All of our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones," the news agency further wrote.

Ukraine's  Ministry of Defense tweeted: " Arman Soldin, an @AFP journalist, was killed in a russian missile attack on Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and coworkers. He dedicated his life to informing the world about the truth. His legacy, as well as his cause, will live on."
