Afghanistan: Taliban fire at protesters in Kabul

| @indiablooms | Dec 29, 2021, at 03:52 pm

Kabul/UNI/Sputnik: The Taliban on Tuesday opened fire at women protesters in Kabul near a building that housed the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in the past.

"Taliban opened fire on protesters to stop or suppress protest," a witness said, adding that filming of the demonstration was not allowed.

According to the protester, women came out in protest demanding "employment, food and freedom."

Another source told Sputnik that the Taliban members were firing in the air. People close to the Taliban claimed that the firing took place "at a considerable distance" from the place where the demonstration was held.

No casualties have been reported.

The Taliban's swift ascension to power in Afghanistan in mid-August triggered an economic disarray and food shortages. Thousands of Afghans have fled the country.
