Kabul/IBNS: An Afghan youth national footballer was among those who fell from the United States military C-17 aircraft and died, in a bid to flee the Taliban rule in Afghanistan earlier this week.

Afghanistan's General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports has confirmed that Zaki Anwari was among hundreds who were killed after falling from the plane.

A statement by the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports on Facebook reads, "It is with great sadness that Zaki Anwari, one of the players of the national junior football team of the country, died in a horrible accident.

"The late Anwari among hundreds of young people who wanted to leave the country, fell down in an accident from the air..."

As Taliban invaded Afghanistan completely Sunday, hundreds of people Monday rushed to the tarmac of the city airport, tried to board the US aircraft to flee the country, in a fear of the insurgents' rule.

A huge number of terrified panic-hit people climbed to the aircraft and even clung to the landing gear of the plane in a desperate attempt to reach a safer zone.

In a video which was available on social media, at least two people were spotted falling from the aircraft when it ascended.
