6.3 magnitude earthquake rocks Japan's Ishikawa region

Tokyo/IBNS: A 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in the central Ishikawa region of Japan, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The earthquake had a depth of 10 km and occurred at 2:42 pm (0542 GMT). Although no tsunami warning was issued, the region experienced the impact of the quake, reporetd AFP.

Japan Railway announced the suspension of Shinkansen bullet trains between Nagano and Kanazawa, a famous tourist destination, due to the earthquake.

The quake, which occurred in Suzu city, Ishikawa, registered an upper six on the Japanese Shindo scale, which has a maximum of seven, which indicates that the earthquake could potentially trigger significant landslides in the affected area.

The magnitude of the earthquake, as reported by the US Geological Survey, was 6.2. Japan, located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc with high seismic activity spanning across Southeast Asia and the Pacific basin, frequently experiences earthquakes.
