New Delhi, Mar 4 (IBNS): The Indian woman traveller is today a force to reckon with, and has evolved from the traditional mother figure in family vacations to an influencer and is now emphatically both a decision maker and a traveller in her own right.
Her travel covers a diverse spectrum, from ‘girlie groups’, mother-daughter bonding trips, ‘kitty-party’ groups, ‘bachelorette’ or ‘hen tours’, solo-travel to indulgent luxury itineraries.

India’s woman traveller has learned to balance work, while indulging in much deserved getaways with friends, family or alone! Financial independence has given strong impetus to this segment; the Frost & Sullivan Amadeus Report too highlights a significant growth potential in women business travellers (891% between 2011 and 2020).

Thomas Cook’s survey polled across 1215 women reveals a few interesting trends in the travel habits of India’s women travellers:
• 70% welcome travel opportunities with their women friends- over and above family travel
• Favourite inclusions in their travel plans include culture, cuisine, spa-wellness, shopping; an interesting 35% showing marked interest in outdoor, adventure, wildlife
• Group escorted travel was a favourite across Indian women at 51%, however more than 62% of metro women preferred smaller ad hoc groups, sans tour manager.  17% show an inclination towards solo travel with destination safety-security a prime factor; Singapore emerging a favourite.
• Self-drives as an option received an interesting 12% votes with New Zealand and USA topping the list
• Popular international destinations included Singapore, Thailand, Switzerland, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Bali, USA
• Domestic favourites stated were Goa, Andamans, Rajasthan, Ladakh
With the objective of commemorating World Women’s Day (March 8) and to encourage the emerging trend of women-travel, Thomas Cook India, India’s leading integrated travel and travel related financial services company has launched a variety of special packages to enable India’s women traveller indulge in travel therapy!

Commenting on women travellers, Rajeev Kale – President & Chief Operating Officer – MICE, Domestic & Sports Tourism - Thomas Cook India Ltd said, “Today’s Indian women are intrepid travellers- keen to discover the nuances of a destination, learn a new skill, indulge in engaging experiences, while having fun!  In fact, as per our Thomas Cook India’s internal research, a majority of women travellers polled (56%) said that they would actively look for non-touristy spots, unexplored routes and out-of-the-box experiences-- to immerse themselves in the destinations they visit and travel like a local.”

He added, “78% of women polled also said that safety and security was their primary concern while travelling and hence woman-friendly destinations like Singapore are very much on their radar.”
