Kinnaur Kailash Yatra 2026 to begin July 30: Registration opens soon, key rules for pilgrims

The yatra, which was earlier postponed due to safety concerns along the challenging Himalayan route, will now be conducted after authorities reviewed the conditions and strengthened safety arrangements.

Officials had flagged several risks, including active glaciers, falling rocks and landslide-prone stretches, leading to a temporary delay in the pilgrimage.

Yatra dates revised after safety review

The Kinnaur Kailash Yatra was initially scheduled from July 1 to July 30. However, due to the closure of the route during the safety assessment, the pilgrimage period has now been shortened.

The yatra will be held from July 30 to August 10, 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions.

Authorities have warned that the trek may be modified, delayed or suspended if weather conditions pose a threat to pilgrims' safety.

Limited daily entries, early registration required

Due to the difficult terrain and safety concerns, only 375 pilgrims will be allowed to undertake the yatra each day.

Registration will be available through multiple channels:

• 175 slots through online registration on the official Kinnaur district website
• 125 slots through offline registration
• 75 slots through the Adventure Tour Operators Association Kinnaur

The online registration portal will open on July 28 at 10 AM, with bookings initially available for pilgrimage dates between July 30 and August 4.

Pilgrims opting for offline registration must report to the Registration Camp at Tangling Village on July 30 by 6 AM.

Medical fitness certificate mandatory

Given the demanding nature of the trek, pilgrims must carry a valid medical fitness certificate before beginning the journey.

The certificate can be obtained from a registered medical officer in their local area or pilgrims can undergo a medical examination at the Medical Camp set up at Tangling Village.

Authorities have made it clear that no devotee will be allowed to participate without completing the mandatory registration and medical verification process.

Authorities review safety arrangements

Preparations for the yatra are being closely monitored by officials to ensure a safe pilgrimage experience.

A recent meeting chaired by Kalpa SDM and Yatra Organising Committee chairman Praveen Bhardwaj reviewed arrangements related to traffic management, medical assistance, drinking water facilities, security and disaster response.

Officials are focusing on strengthening safety measures along the high-altitude route before pilgrims begin their trek to the sacred site.

Pilgrims advised to follow guidelines

The Kinnaur Kailash route is considered one of the most challenging pilgrimages in Himachal Pradesh due to its steep terrain, unpredictable weather and high-altitude conditions.

Devotees have been advised to complete all formalities in advance, follow official instructions and avoid undertaking the trek without proper preparation.
