Yashasvi Jaiswal slams hundred on debut as India dominate West Indies on second day

Dominica: Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century on Test debut during the first Test between the West Indies and India at Windsor Park here on Thursday.

The Mumbaikar became the 17th Indian to score a century on Test debut, which came during 200+ opening stand with captain Rohit Sharma.

The last Indian batsman to crack a century on Test debut was Shreyas Iyer, who did it against New Zealand in the home series.

Jaiswal joined the elite club Sunil Gavaskar by becoming the second Indian batsman after the legendary opener recorded 50+ score on Test debut in West Indies. He also became the third opener to score a century in a debut Test match after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.

While Shikkhar had scored 187 against Australia at Mohali in 2013, Shaw scored 134 at Rajkot in 2018.

After showing a lot of confidence on Day 1, Jaiswal continued to showcase his batsmanship and looked as though he was playing his 100th Test.

Interestingly, he also displayed his mental strength to spend time on the crease in Test matches, which was in contrast to his bang-bang batting in T20s.

Kraigg Brathwaite-led Windies were floored after opting to bat as they were packed off for only 150 in their first innings, thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin's five-fer. And now, they are struggling to get wickets as India are poised for taking a mammoth first innings lead.

Before his Test debut, Jaiswal had slammed nine centuries in 15 first-class matches.
