World Cup: Rahul, Rohit power India to thrash Sri Lanka by 7 wickets

Leeds, July 6 (IBNS): Riding on centuries by two openers, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, India thrashed Sri Lanka in their last group matche of the World Cup here on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 265, India scored the required runs in 43.3 overs.

Rahul and Rohit scored 111 and 103 runs respectively.

Skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten at 34. Along with Kohli, Hardik Pandya scored not out 7 off 4 balls.

Earlier Sri Lanka scored 264/7 in 50 overs. Angelo Mathews scored 113 off 128 balls.

Lahiru Thirimanne, who had shared a 124-run partnership with Mathews, scored 53.

India have lost only one match in the tournament. The men-in-blue were defeated by England by 31 runs.

The result of the match between Australia and South Africa will decide against which team India will play in the semifinals. Presently, India are at the top of the points table with 15 points.
