Leicester, July 8 (IBNS): In a clash with South Africa, India received a heavy loss by 115 runs in the Women's World Cup 2017 on Saturday.

The full Indian batting order collapsed in front of the South African bowlers and could only manage to score 158 runs in 46 overs.

Though Deepti Sharma played a decent knock of 60 runs upfront but received no support from the other end. India kept on losing their wickets and eventually fallen short of the target by a huge margin.

Though Jhulan Goswami fought a battle with Sharma in the later part of the innings, till then the match was very much out of the grip from Indians.

South African captain Dane van Neikerk picked up four wickets conceding just 22 runs, demolishing the Indian batting.

Earlier, Indian team won the toss and elected to bowl first. South Africa posted a total of 273/9 in 50 overs.

Lizelle Lee and Dane van Niekerk were the top scorers for South Africa with 92 and 57 respectively.

Indian bowlers were disciplined overall and conceded reasonable runs to the South African batters. Shikha Pandey had the best bowling figure with 3/40 in nine overs. Ekta Bisht and Harmanpreet Kaur shared couple of wickets each.

India would require to chase the target at a run rate slightly higher than five.
