Paris/UNI: Unseeded Czech Barbora Krejcikova defeated Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the French Open final to win her first major single title, here at Court Philippe-Chatrier on Saturday.

She took 118 minutes to win the final, becoming the second Czech women to win the French Open since Hana Mandlikova who had won the title in 1981.

Now, the former doubles world number one Krejcikova has to appear in the women's doubles final on Sunday along with compatriot Katerina Siniakova. The 25-year-old player has also won two Grand Slams doubles titles with Siniakova. Krejcikova has also won three mixed doubles major titles.

The World number 32 Pavlyuchenkova had entered her first Grand Slam final on 52nd attempt while It was Krejcikova's first final in her fifth grand Slam.

Czech dedicated this victory to her mentor Jana Novotna, who died of cancer in 2017 at the age of 49.

"I was going through a really hard time when Jana died, I was with her most of the time. Her last words were pretty much 'just enjoy it and try to win a Grand Slam," Krejcikova said on the court.
