West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose Visits Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling

Bose offered a traditional Khada and floral tribute at Tenzing Norgay’s Samadhi, honouring the enduring legacy of one of the greatest icons in the history of mountaineering.

The Speaker was welcomed by HMI Principal Col Rajneesh Joshi and other officials of the institute. He was briefed on HMI’s rich legacy, its pioneering role in mountaineering education, and its contribution to promoting adventure sports and Himalayan exploration in India.

During the visit, Bose was introduced to the institute’s world-class training programmes, along with specialised mountaineering equipment and technical gear used in professional training and expeditions.

He also visited the HMI Museum, where he explored its extensive collection of historic artefacts, expedition memorabilia and archival exhibits documenting the evolution of Himalayan mountaineering and celebrating the achievements of generations of climbers.

The visit highlighted the importance of preserving India’s mountaineering heritage and encouraging future generations to embrace the values of adventure, courage, discipline and exploration that have been central to HMI since its establishment.

HMI expressed its gratitude to Rathindra Bose for his visit and continued support towards the promotion and development of mountaineering and adventure sports in the country.
