Melbourne, Feb 22 (BNS) Indian skipper MS Dhoni on Sunday said his side put up a 'complete performance' to beat South Africa by 130 runs in a group stage match of the World Cup here.

"I think more than the result, it was about how we played. Back to back performances by both the bowling and batting units...South Africa are a fantastic side. So, it was one more complete performance from us," Dhoni said after the match.

"The bowlers bowled in good areas...I can give fields to the fast bowlers. They are not bowling loose balls. They bowled tight lines and the batsmen had to play big shots to get runs ," he said.

After posting 307 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs, Indian bowlers continued their brilliant performance as they bowled out South Africa for 177 runs in 40.2 overs.

India spinner R Aswin picked up three wickets for India.

Faf du Plessis top scored for South Africa with his 55.

Earlier, riding on a sensational knock by opener Shikhar Dhawan and a sensible innings by Ajinkya Rahane (79) , India posted a competitive 307 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

This was the first time India beat the African side in the World Cup.

Last Sunday, MS Dhoni's side had defeated Pakistan in their first World Cup match.
