Bengaluru, Nov 29 (IBNS): The much awaited India Juniors Golf Championship came to an end of the last leg with Eagleton GC, Bengaluru playing host to India's brightest junior talent on the circuit.
The tour resumed on November 25 with the Bengaluru leg and witnessed the grand finale in at Eagleton GC on Saturday.
Emerging tops at the IGU Yes Bank All India Juniors 2014 was Viraj Madappa with a score of 275.
Over 60 young Golfers between the age of 13-17 years competed for the last five days. K Surya Kumar & Feroz Grewal bagged 1st & 2nd runner up places with a score of 287 and 290. As a result of this victory, Miraj has qualified for the National Junior Squad to represent India in 2015.
Rana Kapoor, Managing Director & CEO, Yes Bank said: “Golf in India today is largely a youth driven sport, and while the IGU, India’s apex golf body, has spearheaded promotion and development of the sport since 1955, golf still finds itself in a nascent stage in India, compared to neighboring Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia. The last few years have seen a surge in development of golf infrastructure, trained caddies and support staff, professional coaches and facilities in India, under the aegis of IGU. Although there has been substantial corporate sponsorship and media build up in recent years, golf in India still offers extensive untapped opportunities.”
With an aim to promote Golf among youngsters, Yes Bank signed a multi-year deal with the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Junior Tour for 3 years commencing with the 2014 season.
The tour comprises 11 tournaments including 4-zonals (North, South, East and South) and a final. Over 250 junior golfers from across the country competed in the tournament.
