New York, Sept 4 (IBNS) The Indo-Swiss pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis entered the second round with ease but in another encounter Caroline Wozniacki's progress was halted by the unseeded P Cetkovska as the fourth seeded Danish tennis star was ousted in the second round, here on Thursday.

Sania-Martina breezed past their opponent, all American pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the ongoing tournament.

After a win in the mixed doubles category, Leander Peas tasted success once again as he and his partner, Fernando Verdasco of Spain took on the German pair of Florian Mayer and Frank Moser and floored them 6-2, 6-3 to set up a second round date.

Wozniacki received a jolt under lights as she conceded the first set to Cetkovska, but came back strongly to claim the second only to lose the third and the match. The score line 6-4, 5-7, 7(7)-6(1) went against her.

Simona Halep had another outstanding outing. The world number two defeated Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-3, 6-4 in the second round and will face Shelby Rogers of USA in the next round.

Petra Kvitova overcame American Nicole Gibbs’ challenge by defeating her 6-3, 6-4

In the Men’s Singles division, Andy Murray survived a scare as the British tennis star came back from behind to post a crucial victory.

Facing A Mannarino of France, the third seeded Murray was down by 2 sets 7-5, 6-4 but managed to get his act together and won the remaining three 1-6, 3-6, 1-6 to put an end to the Frenchman’s dream of continuing in the tournament.

Roger Federer made a swift entry to the third round as he defeated S Darcis 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. He will next face Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.

Fifth seeded Stanislas Wawrinka faced a tough competition in form of Korean H Chung as he was stretched in all three sets but managed to thaw the challenge and move on to the third round. He finished with 7(7)-6(2), 7(7)-6(4), 7(8)-6(6).
