Totally deserving: Tendulkar, Kohli praise Team India after historic T20 World Cup win

Indian cricketing icons, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, greeted the Indian cricket team after Suyakumar Yadav and his spirited teammates beat New Zealand by 96 runs to clinch the T20 World Cup in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Wishing Indian team, former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar wrote on X: "Winning the World Cup twice in a row, the first time any team has done so in the T20 format. Totally deserving and rightful winners of the trophy."

"What a fantastic performance by our team and a special brand of cricket on display.Well done, Team India. Jai Hind!" he said.

Ex-captain Virat Kohli, who is still an anchor man in the ODI team, wished his teammates and wrote on X: "Champions Phenomenal win for Team India in Ahmedabad. Absolutely no match for the explosive cricket played by us throughout the tournament. Brilliant character shown by the boys to keep fighting in tough situations and become world champions once again. Congratulations to all the players and all the members of the management for achieving this feat. Jai Hind ."

India changed the record books by becoming the first host nation to win the T20 World Cup by beating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the iconic tournament in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Riding on Sanju Sampson's sensational knock of 89 runs, India posted a mammoth 255 runs for the loss of five wickets after New Zealand put them to bat first after winning the toss.

Indian bowlers, guided by Jasprit Bumrah (4-15), bowled out New Zealand for 159 runs, ending their dream run in the tournament.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner (43) and Tim Seifert (52) remained the top scorers for the team in the match that was completely dominated by India.

India wrote its name in the history book as the first nation to win two back-to-back T20 World Cup titles, the last one being clinched in the West Indies in 2024 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

This is the third T20 World Cup won by India in the history of the tournament.
