Rome/Xinhua: Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep both advanced to the Italian Open finals on Sunday.

Djokovic beat Norway's Casper Ruud 7-5, 6-3. The Serb will face eight-seeded Argentine Diego Schwartzman in the men's final.

Schwartzman, who ousted Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4) in the other semifinal.

If Djokovic beats Schwartzman in the final, he will win a record 36th Masters title.

In a battle of former French Open champions, Romania's Halep beat Garbine Muguruza of Spain 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the women's final.

The 2018 French Open winner will meet Karolina Pliskova, the second seed, who beat fellow Czech Marketa Vondrousova 6-2, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
