Test: England continue dominating, India struggle at 323 for 8
Resuming from overnight score of 25 for one, it was English bowlers who did not lose grip and Indian batsmen hardly got a chance to take control of the proceedings.
India are still 47 runs short of avoiding the follow-on.
Indian batsmen failed to convert the start they got in the match.
Murali Vijay (35), Cheteshwar Pujara (24), Virat Kohli (39), Rohit SHarma (29), Ravindra Jadeja (31) got good starts but then departed before playing long innings which was needed for the team chasing England's mammoth 569-7 declared.
Ajinkya Rahane (54) and MS Dhoni (50*) scored half-centuries. Dhoni will resume proceedings for India on Wednesday and will need to play a big innings to rescue India out of the current situation.
Rahane played a crucial knock to rebuild the Indian innings but got out at an important juncture of the match at 54. His wicket was picked up by Moeen Ali .
Sharma and Rahane had added 74 runs in the fifth wicket partnership. Both Sharma and Rahane's wickets were taken by Ali as India struggled at 217 for six after a brief battle to stabilize the innings by the Indian duo.
Jadeja and Dhoni added 58 runs in the seventh wicket partnership later. Anderson dismissed Jadeja and Stuart Borad picked up
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19)'s wicket to leave the task at Dhoni's hand to avoid follow-on on Wednesday.
Mohammed Shami (4*) is at the crease with Dhoni.
English bowlers impressed with their bowling and used the conditions well to make sure their side continue dominating the match.
The experienced James Anderson (3-52), Stuart Broad (3-65) destroyed the Indian batting line-up.
It was spinner Ali, who has been warned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) not to put on the pro-Gaza wristbands he wore on Monday, took the wickets of Rahane and Sharma at crucial juncture and broke the partnership which was becoming a threat for the home side.
India lead the series 1-0.
