"He polled a total of 243 votes to win in a canter from the other pre-count hopeful David Warner (175) and reigning Border Medallist Mitchell Johnson (126), cricket.com.au reported.

"I've just really enjoyed the last 12 to 18 months," Smith was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au
.
"And seeing some of those highlights, particularly the South Africa to win over here and beat the number one Test team in the world in their own backyard was amazing," he said.

In the absence of Michael Clarke, Smith was named the Test captain during the recent series against India. Under his leadership, the home side won the series.
