Mirpur, July 5 (IBNS) Skipper Faf du Plessis' heroic unbeaten 79 and then disciplined performance by bowlers helped South Africa hand over 52 runs defeat to Bangladesh in the first T20I match played here on Sunday.

After Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first, his side suffered an early loss as opener A B de Villiers got out at his personal score of 2 in the first over. Arafat Sunny took his wicket to give the side an initial jolt.

The skipper played a crucial knock of 79 not out and along with Rilee Rossouw's unbeaten 31, helped their team post a competitive 148 for the loss of 4 wickets in their quota of 20 overs.

The duo added 58 runs in the fifth wicket partnership.

The South African bowlers did not disappoint the skipper as they bowled tight and caused troubles for the hosts.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 96 runs  in 18.5 overs.

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, David Wiese and J P Duminy picked up 2 wickets each while Kyle Abbott, Wayne Parnell and Aaron Phangiso picked up a piece each.

Shakib Al Hasan top scored for Bangladesh with 26.

Litton Das (22) and Mushfiqur Rahim (17)  failed to convert the start they got in the innings.

The rest of the batsmen failed to touch a double digit score.

Faf du Plessis was adjudged the Man of the match for his contribution with the bat.
