South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets
Chester-le-Street, Jun 28 (UNI/IBNS): Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis’ 175 run partnership for second wicket and some fine bowling by the team won South Africa their Cricket World Cup match against Sri Lanka by nine wickets here on Friday.
While Amla made an unbeaten 80 off 105, Plessis’ made 96 not out off 103 balls.
Bowlers Dwaine Pretorius 3/25, Chris Morris 3/46 and Rabada 2/36 contributed well.
Chasing 204, South Africa after losing one wicket easily scored 206 in 37.2 overs with 76 balls remaining.
The Proteas, who are already out of World Cup semis, have won two of their eight matches yet with 5 points while Sri Lanka remain at the 7th spot. They have won two of their seven matches.
Sri Lanka need to win two more matches to keep their hopes alive for a semi-final spot.
