Sourav Ganguly turns 53, BCCI greets cricket icon

Kolkata/IBNS: Former Indian cricket captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly turned 53 on Tuesday.

On the occasion of his 53rd birthday, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) shared the statistics of his illustrious career on social media in extending greetings.

In 424 international matches, the southpaw amassed 18,575 runs and 38 centuries.

The BCCI wrote on X, "Here's wishing former #TeamIndia Captain and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly a very Happy Birthday."

Ganguly, who is credited for changing the face of Indian cricket as the captain in a span of five-six years from 2000 to 2005, called off his international career in 2008 playing a four-match Test series against Australia at home.

He last played the domestic T20 tournament Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2012.

However, instead of taking it slow, Ganguly plunged into a more active life, initially turning into a cricket commentator, hosting and eventually becoming the BCCI chief.

The former captain was at the helm of BCCI from 2019 to 2022.

Meanwhile, Ganguly's biopic is set to be made and Rajkummar Rao will play him on screen.

The biopic is expected to be released in late 2026.
